I think the girl in the picture is Barbara Mason, who lived down the road.
We were kind of keen on each other for a while and all the other kids would send us up.
The budgerigar eventually escaped, and was promptly swooped on by a kookaburra from the tall gums opposite, leaving nothing but a spray of feathers catching the sun.
